The Intel Atom processor uses a brand new design structure that packs in 47 million transistors into a single chip sized at just 22mm (0.87 inches), and it uses just 2.5 watts of power--less than 1/10 of the 35 watts used by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor--for excellent battery management. This 1.6 GHz Atom N270 processor also includes a power-optimized front side bus of 533 MHz for faster data transfer on demanding mobile applications and a 512 KB L2 cache (which temporarily stores data).

Storage
This version of the Aspire One comes with a 160 GB hard disk drive (5400 RPM), which offers enough to room to hold a digital audio library of over 26,000 songs and still have room left over for movies, games, and a large collection of software. This Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to Firewire and USB 2.0.

Memory
The 1 GB of installed RAM (512 MB onboard memory and one 512 MB DIMM, 533 MHz) can be expanded to a maximum of 1.5 GB of RAM,

DVD/CD Drive
Because of its size, the Aspire One does not come with an integrated optical drive, but optional CD/DVD read/write drives can be connected to the laptop via one of the three USB ports, enabling you to create your music mixes, burn movies to DVD, and more.

Connectivity
This Acer Aspire One notebook has an integrated 54g wireless LAN (Acer InviLink) that's compatible with 802.11b and 802.11g networks and offers Acer's SignalUp technology for enhanced antenna efficiency. This notbook provides the following connections:

Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, which uses shared video memory with the main memory. Acer's CrystalBrite display technology guarantees the best possible visual experience by preventing the diffusion of surrounding light and internal ray. Compared to normal TFT LCDs, Acer CrystalBrite technology is able to read color coordinates more accurately, thus minimizing distortion and creating high-fidelity colors in all environments.

This notebook includes an integrated audio card with Microsoft DirectSound compatibility, and it includes two stereo speakers.

I bought this as a replacement to my laptop which has thus died and now use this as my main computer. I've used laptops for over 10 years as my main computer and find that this keyboard is just as easy to type on as any other. The only thing you have to get use to is the arrow keys and page up/down are in different locations. The mouse buttons are on it's side but I've never used them since tapping always gets the job done. It's a nice bonus to have 2 card readers even if 1 is sd only. The 3 cell battery is about 2 hours long but that is the same as my old laptop so no difference to me maybe others. The charger is small enough to carry with you when the need arises. I did pick up an external cdrom drive to rip my cds, yes i still like having those, but you really don't miss it if you buy mp3s online. The 120GB hard drive is large enough for many programs and files. The Atom processor is pretty fast especially compared to my old celeron. Most of us only really use our computers for photos, mp3s, web and word processing and this little computer is more than enough to handle it all and a bit more. Although not auto-cad and things like that.

This is a wonderful computer and met and exceeded my needs. I needed a small and portable laptop and this is the one. No real complaints except it is a little slow on the interenet, other than that.....outstanding and the price is right! I would recommend this to the on the go person.

This netbook is great. Tiny and lightweight (2 pounds) for college students to carry without breaking your back or budget. This puppy is fast from on button (8 seconds). It is lil top heavy, so when working from comfort of bed, (as if), it can be a little wobbly. It's durable cause it slid off my lap twice while 'napping' and it worked great. The Linux system takes sum gettin use too, but it's easy. Suggest upgrading Ram to 2g if bought smaller (and you can do it yourself, CNET.com) and purchase a memory card (I bought 8g) and external hard (usb) for the big stuff. The screen is crystal clear and bright lcd (better than my Toshiba). Netbook garners great attention in public places so prepare urself to be talked to death (o and put DL# on bottom, jus incase). Outside Dull? by appliqués. Can peel off easy w/o damage. Internal Wifi can catch any bubble. It's easiness and size makes it addictive, so put band aides on index finger! I learned the hard way.
O, and be prepared for your kids to be jealous, so buy 2. then you don't have to share. Happy surfing 8)

Review by Christopher Fisher from MI, USA:

I purchased this laptop for my sister who is your average computer user - she knows her way around Windows well enough and being in her twenties has grown up with computers. This doesn't stop her from calling me whenever she has a computer issue though, so when she was looking to replace her laptop she got me in on the discussion.

I was a little worried when she decided she liked the cost-savings associated with the linux-based netbook - I figured I'd end up helping her fix a bunch of problems with it when she couldn't figure out any of the stuff associated.

Surprisingly though, she arrived at my house before I did and had the laptop already hooked up and working when I got home to help her set it up - apparently it's pretty easy to get going right out of the box.

She poked around it a bit and ended up showing me how the interface was set up instead of the other way around. I gave her the password for my wireless network and she was online with it in no time.

Since then (three months and counting) I have not had her call or email me with a single question and I know she uses it on a daily basis. She teaches classes at a community college and she uses the powerpoint equivalent that is loaded on the machine for visual aides, and she writes up lectures and notes in the word equivalent.

Of course like everyone else I was very impressed with the look and feel of the laptop, as well as the size. This is truly a portable machine.

Some people may not like the lack of storage (though I've seen plenty of people buy a full-sized machine with a 160+ GB hard drive and only utilize 4 GB anyway...) or the fact that you are not able to install your normal Windows applications, but if these aren't a problem for you this is a great little netbook.

Review by Luis Felipe Gonzalez Diaz from Vzla_CCS:

This is a good choice for those who are in the market for a good, basic, and cheap Laptop. I highly recommend this Laptop for websurfing, and all your Office applications. If you want more than that you will be disappointed. Keep in mind that this is a single core low energy Intel processor. As for the hard drive and RAM they put plenty in this small case so that helps the overall performance.

The exterior looks nice and shiny. Keyboard is not that small, Unfortunately the display is kind of small, I think they wasted too much space in the frame.

Battery life is very good, I get 3 to 4 hours on normal settings.

I purchase two of this Laptops one for me and one for my niece. She's 12YO and she use it for school as a replacement for her paper notebook. She's very please with this little thing. I use mine as a traveler replacement for my new HP DV51010US compare to that the Acer is no more than a toy, but is much lighter and the battery life is way better too. So I rather carry this around when I'm away.
