Sony HT-SS2300 Blu-ray Disc™ Matching Component Home Theater System

You've bought your widescreen TV. The next inevitable step is to buy a Blu-Ray player. Upgrade your entertainment room with the HT-SS2300 component home theater system. This slim receiver, designed to look great alongside your Blu-ray Disc player, combines great styling with unparalleled performance and includes a 5.1-channel A/V receiver thrusting 1000 watts of power (RMS). In addition, the A/V receiver's HDMI?interface transmits both audio and video while offering 1080p resolution and full bandwidth sound tracks (LPCM) support through a single cable. You can also integrate your portable music into a traditional home theater system while providing enhanced audio quality with the Portable Audio Enhancer. Designed to sync with Sony Blu-ray Disc components, the HT-SS2300 offers one-touch operation of compatible Sony HDMI components which eliminate the need of multiple remote controls.

Like many of you I went around and around before deciding on a Home Theater system. Some reviews good, some bad... what do you make of it? LOL
I tend to give more weight to professional reviews because they are able to use a broader range of products in comparison. But I do consider reviewers here on Amazon because after all, what matters most is what happens in the living room.
I have mostly Samsung components (Series 7 LCD 46", BP1500 Blu-Ray) and so I really wanted a Samsung A/V system, but couldn't find one that matched price, performance and features. I was looking for bass and audio performance, plenty of HDMI hookups, digital audio and reliability... of course all coming in at a nice price. This Sony seemed to me to be the best all around value and so I opted for it over Samsung components. You can spend more, and if money is no option then don't waste your time on a mid-level setup like this.
For people like me who don't want to spend more than $350 or so, then this is probably one of the top 5 best bets. Set up was a breeze- all of my components connected and work together flawlessly.
The sound... well for my family it works and I don't regret buying this system. I am smart enough to know there are better sounding systems, just not in this price range AND offering the abundance of HDMI hookups, etc... So again, weighing benefits with cost and performance means this one ranks high.
It looks sharp and has a low, small profile, which I like. The remote is also small and smart looking, and the system is easy and intuitive to use.
I love it and recommend it to those budgeting no more than $350 to their A/V system.

Review by G. Ramirez from critiCali.... son!:
This System sounds GREAT!!! Looks nice in all black, speakers are built tough and give off beautiful crisp sounds. The woofer...... amazing, it goes loooooowww!, The receiver is nice and heavy, and easy to set up. Speakers are magnetically shielded and do g loud without any distortion, well worth the low 300 dollar price. Its sony..... they dont make junk. I recommend this product if you have a blu ray player, because it is made to decode blue-ray sound encryption automatically.
Review by GetALife from :
I purchased this item because I am very happy with my Sony Blu Ray player. I figured this would go well with it. WRONG. When switching between functions (say directv to blu ray player) the piture would come in unclear. I would have to toggle back and fourth to get a clear picture. I got a replacement.....same deal. Avoid this product. The quality is just not there.
Review by J. M. Ritter from Akron, OH.:
This slim stereo outputs very good sound and the speakers don't take up much room. I'm using mine in connection with a Bravia TV with the Bravia Sync feature enabled and it is sweet. I turn on the tv and the TV then turns on the stereo and whenever the volume on the TV is turned up or down a window on the TV says Audio System VOL + or - depending on if it's being turned up or down. It's a cool feature. Not to mention the great sound from the sub. Very deep clear bass and clear high notes and it looks good and is built well. If you don't have a lot of money to spend or want something that won't take up a lot of space in your entertainment center cabinet this is the one. I recommend it fully. My next purchase to go with this will be a Blu Ray disc player.

I just got it and set it up last night. Setup is quite easy, sounds great. I had bought rocketfish wireless for these rear speakers, not a single issue to get them work together.
I was looking for HTIB in the last couple of weeks, 90% products are with DVD players and no receivers, does not really like them, since they are not the full relievers, the lack of interfaces (such as HDMI) would be a fatal issues for me.
This one is exact what I want, tiny front/back speakers, easier to place, but full of power. The only thing I am hoping the menu could be on-screen, instead of starring at the tiny LCD display on the receiver to figure out where you are.
Just watched a HD movie from cable, surround sound is great, too.
I would get the sony play station 3 soon, then would try how the Blue-ray works.
