Mega Bloks King Arthur Battle Action Castle

This buildable 250-piece playset sets the stage for royal adventures as King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table come to life. A real working drawbridge, hidden chambers, launching cannons, opening doors, King Arthur's round table and more provide the perfect backdrop for medieval merriment. The included articulated figures come to life with the "magic in motion" stick. Requires 2 "AA" batteries, not included. Castle measures 15" tall when assembled.

Because all of the pieces are not "traditional" Lego-style shape, the pieces all need to be pushed on very well so that those you are adding to them will also stay on as you build and play. This can be a bit challenging for smaller fingers as they are not as strong as an adult's, but it gets you in there working with your kids as they build, which is never a bad thing. However, that said, having "non-traditional" pieces are what make this an awesome set. It's Playmobile meets Lego without having to have both kinds of toys! Once assembled it looks like a play castle that doesn't come apart. Once assembled it closes up nicely on "hinges" and as long as you've pushed the pieces together well it does not fall apart easily--even at the hinges--we can even move the whole thing to a different location without it falling apart. You child will be very disappointed if they don't get some help from stronger fingers as then it will fall apart easily. One of our pieces was "warped" and we are hoping to see a replacement piece arrive soon (we had the same problem with a completely different Mega Bloks piece in the ship set). I'm giving 5 stars on everything based on the assumption we will get a replacement part. If not, I'll update this and it will lose stars as who wants a set that can't be built correctly becasue of a bad piece? This set is being used for many different play "scenerios".....not just King Arthur. It comes with some great accessories for the characters and set.

Review by Fox in Socks from Utah:

We have not purchased mega bloks brand toys before that were this similar to Lego brand, however, the only similarity between the 2 is the size of the building blocks! The mega bloks do not snap together or stay together like Lego's at all.

Thankfully I only paid $24 for this castle! I admittedly missed the age suggestion for this toy and purchased it for my 5 year old son for Christmas. It was probably appropriate for the age range the box gave (9-13). However, my husband and I both grew frustrated with how easily the pieces came apart while we were constructing the castle. One little touch made the thing fall down! We solved that problem with some super glue and my kids have all had fun playing with it.

This castle does have some cool features to it, but like I said earlier, I'm glad I only paid $24. Durability is not a description I would give this toy. I honestly don't expect it to last very long. I would have been sorely disappointed had I paid full price.

Ditto, ditto, ditto.....to all those who have remarked on the inabilility to keep these blocks from exploding (springing apart) with even the slightest touch. If you purchase this, do yourself a favor and buy a bottle of Krazy glue with the brush like a bottle of whiteout at the same time. That is what I finally had to do after reassembling this monster 3 times. I cussed like a drunken sailor at this thing. Had I paid full price for it, I would have been sick. From now on, it is LEGO's all the way for me. They may be more expensive, but I don't have to buy stock in Krazy glue when I put Lego's together.

This is definitely tricky to put together in places, but I didn't find it as frustrating as some of the other reviewers here. It's a joint adult-child task; if I'd left my 7-year-old alone to put it together, he'd have been frustrated; but doing it together he had a lot of fun and now he's figured things out enough that when a bit falls off (bits definitely fall off pretty regularly!), he knows how to put them back on.

The key issue is probably price. I paid about $[...] for it and I'm very happy -- it was one of the best things my son got this Christmas. If I'd paid the supposed full price (70-80) then I'd be less happy with the purchase. Either way, it's provided hours of fun both constructing and playing.

We bought this castle for my son for Christmas. My husband spent the whole Christmas Day putting it together. Some pieces would pop off every time you would try to put on another piece. We were also missing pieces. My son loves playing with it but falls apart with the slightest touch. We are now super glueing on the pieces as they pop off. Not a toy to buy if you want to play with it.
