Onkyo TX-SR506 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black)

In the case of Onkyo A/V receivers, ?entry level? means a whole lot more than just affordability and standard functionality. You won't find a better example than the TX-SR506, which also offers high-definition media capability and advanced sound correction technologies. With an HDMI platform handling 1080p video from three sources, the TX-SR506 brings polish and peak performance to high-definition displays and sources. Legendary Onkyo amplification drive and power set the foundation for delivering bass crunch and vocal clarity. The TX-SR506 uses Audyssey 2EQ to counter distortion created by walls, furniture and other objects. This technology detects speaker distance, and then sets levels, delays, and crossovers, while also measuring room acoustics and you get to enjoy a sweeping soundstage even at low volumes. Easily holding its own among higher-priced A/V receivers, the TX-SR506 adds serious impetus to entry-level home theater. Review by T. Farabee from Florida:

This receiver does everything as advertised. It expands cable, CD, and DVD digital sound to my 7.1 system using the PLIIx Music mode. I haven't tried it with true 5.1 or 7.1 yet.

Review by Dale R. Fanning from Los Angeles, CA USA:

While I was disappointed at first due to some of the limitations of this device I later realized that I simply had unrealistic expectations. For the price bracket that this model falls in it is very good at what it does. I respect Onkyo and have no complaints about it at all. I should have done more research up front. And frankly, to get a reciever that is capable of all the things I had assumed this one was, I would have to spend 4 or 5 times as much.

I bought this to hook up surround to my tv. This model has HDMI video only, so will not play sound from a HDMI source. I returned product and bought something else. Was very heavy well built unit, would be great for a stero setup, but is not for your new tv setup!

Review by A. Kelly from Seattle, WA:

This receiver has met all of my needs powering my surround sound speakers (5.1). My only disappointment was the lack of AC inputs that allow you to plug in multiple items and power them on/off with a single button. Easily remedied with a power strip.

Review by S. Cherukuri from Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin USA:

I bought this receiver for its optical inputs. After installationn and auto calibration of speakers, I was initially not happy with the sound and I actually thought of returning it. After doing many adjustments through set up, I finally got to the point where the audio quality was satisfactory. I think it is really good bargain for the price. If you a audio purist, spend few extra dollars on high-end receivers.
