Pike Street 200-Thread-Count Microfiber King Sheet Set, Navy

Review by mungo181 from New York:

ach, i wish i'd read the reviews before ordering these. since i paid $10 in shipping and would have to pay like $8 to ship them back, I might as well keep them and donate them to the salvation army. i could get better sheets from a street vendor.

Quality not very good. I peeked in the package, and didn't feel it was worth opening.

Have never owned a set of what is called "microfiber" sheets, and when these went on sale, had to look at the product description to see that they were made from 100% polyester in a 200 thread count. That much I could understand. According to Wikipedia, microfiber is commonly used for apparel, upholstery, industrial filters and (of all things) janitorial products.

It was my son who requested these, as he needed a replacement set. He picked them out and we ordered the Pike Street 200-Thread-Count Microfiber Twin Sheet Set in the Eggplant color. It was a choice of such colors as Terra Cotta, Navy, Cream, Chocolate, Rattan and such, and my son wanted the Eggplant. Was a bit concerned about how they might wash and hold up from the reviews that we had seen, but the price was right, so we ordered them.

They were delivered with another purchase in a couple days. We unwrapped them and immediately washed them in cold water on the gentlest cycle possible, then dried them on the gentle low heat setting. Was surprised that they had very few wrinkles, but much more surprising was how thin they were. Would never recommend these without a decently padded cotton mattress pad, that's for sure.

The good:
* Excellent low price.
* Interesting color selections.
* Fast machine washable, few wrinkles.

The bad:
* Very thin - some women's lingerie is more substantial.
* Extremely thin, unsure about long-term wear.

The bottom line:
These sheets seem reasonable for the price, but have never seen bed sheets that were so thin. Haven't had any pilling after a few washes now, but we're using only cold water and the gentlest cycles. The color seems to be uniform, but the Eggplant reminds me of the maroon paint on an aging Volvo more than anything. My son like the color, but he also thinks that they're a bit thin.

Would be buy another set? I think now. Next time we'll probably go for a poly/cotton or all-cotton set, such as the Pike Street 135-Gram Solid Flannel Twin Sheet Set for winter use, or the Pike Street 160-Gram 100% Egyptian Cotton Jersey Knit Twin Sheet Set. The Pinzon 400-Thread-Count 100% Egyptian Cotton Hemstitch Twin Sheet Set might be a better buy for long-term use.

Microfiber? OK, now we know, but next time we'll get cotton.

You get what you pay for on these, they were very thin, and not as soft as I expected, but I will use them for my guest room.

Okay, these sheets really do stink. Mine came snagged like pantyhose. Plus they are not at all what microfiber means to me. They are more like a bad fake silk sheet. Do yourself a favor and pass.
