Stott Pilates Express Pilates Mat

About Stott Pilates
Lindsay and Moira Merrithew met in New York City when he was studying at Juilliard School of Performing Arts and she was a dancer. While rehabilitating from a broken foot that ended her dancing career, she discovered a then-little-known exercise program developed by Joseph Pilates and became a Pilates instructor. When the couple moved to Toronto, where Lindsay pursued work in theatre, television, and film, they couldn't find proper equipment to use for Pilates exercises and decided to make their own equipment with the help of a carpenter. As Pilates began to gain wider recognition in the early 1990s, the Merrithews seized the opportunity to begin manufacturing modern, professional-quality Pilates equipment. Their company now operates some 30 Pilates training centers in North America as well as manufacturing Pilates equipment and accessories.

1) 3/8" thick mats cushion your spine enough for "rolling like a ball," but are lighter and better for yoga than the thicker mats. 3/8" is the minimum thickness that is sufficient for Pilates I would say.
2) The mats don't squeak underfoot. This is why I returned ten mats of a different brand to a sporting goods store!
3) It is possible to find an equivalent mat of the aeromat brand for a bit cheaper, but I found the Stott mats were just too pretty to resist. I got sage, but I think they all look nice.
4) They are durable. Other mats I tried out were already ripped - brand new. Dig your heal in once and they probably tear badly. The texture and quality of these mats probably guard against tears.
