The WAS-331M has the ability to play recordings in fast and slow playback modes, up to 50-percent faster or 50-percent slower than real time. The unit records files in the WMA (Windows Media Audio) format, and its 2 GB of flash memory is able to capture audio recordings in the following modes: stereo XQ mode (35 hours 30 minutes), stereo HQ mode (71 hours), stereo SP mode (142 hours 5 minutes), HQ mode (142 hours 5 minutes), SP mode (279 hours 35 minutes), and LP mode (555 hours 45 minutes). Other great features include voice activated recording, and a built-in 18 mm round dynamic speaker. The device runs on one AAA battery and offers up to 21 hours of continuous battery life. Compatible with Microsoft Windows 2000 and later operating systems (including Vista), the WAS-331M measures 3.73 x 1.52 x 0.43 inches and weighs just 1.66 ounces.

This is an excellent recorder to record lectures for school. I purchased three of these as gifts for family members because I have had such a good experience with mine. This little item can help your grades. And, even though it doesn't say so, it works with a MacBook. I love the feature that lets you plug it into the computer and make a CD. The sound is outstanding if you record on stereo. I can't say enough about this product.

The Olympus WS-331M has potential to be a great product. If I was the manufacturer I would simplify the operators manual and also include it in a tutorial on the recorder itself. I also, suggest getting someone like myself, one who wants a quality and easy to use recorder, but who is not even close to being a journeyman tech geek to write the instructions from his or hers simple perspective.

i host a radio bicycling show, and travel to--and participate in--bicycle races year 'round, and need an audio recording device that will allow me to capture, with NPR quality, both conversations and ambient sounds to recreate the atmosphere of the event or the person which is the subject of the recording.
this little wonder does it all.
i'm relatively new to the radio business, but with my olympus ws-331m and acessories, i come across like a seasoned professional. with its 2GB flash drive of memory and storage, it is touted to have up to 550+ hours of mono capacity. with my stereo microphone, the "lowest" quality setting provides 72 hours of recording memory in a quality high-enough for our state-of-the-art station's studio. i can't say enough about this little thing. and it's the size of maybe three cigarettes.

i also bought the telephone conversation recording microphone set-up, and with the stereo earplugs as monitors and non-olympus microphone, i have a recording studio in a pouch. it has worked well in all the conditions i've encountered thus far, although the little built-in stereo microphones had trouble with the 50+ mph winds at a late-october cyclocross race [the hand-held microphone with noise filter took care of that]. i look forward to using it at the national championships in mid-december; i'm certain it will stand up to the certain arctic condtions that historically prevail.
i pity the fool who gets something OTHER than this olympus ws-331m.

I bought the Digital recorder after a lot of research and I am hugely satisfied with this product. It is sleek, extremely light weight and the recording quality is very good.
